100 Computers to Belarus

Dale and I are with Campus Crusade for Christ. On behalf of the schools and regional social welfare departments of Belarus, we want to thank Helping Tulsa for the 100 donated computers. Most of the computers went to town and village schools that did not have computers to train their students. Other computers went to social welfare centers to train physically disabled youths to use computers, resulting in giving them the viability to earn a living.

Belarus is located between Poland and Russia. Belarus was formerly apart of the USSR. Even though Belarus is a third world country she has always placed a high degree of importance on education. It is rare to find an illiterate person in Belarus. The schools attain this high level of literacy in their students without much financial support. The greatest percentage of village schools and town schools cannot afford to purchase a computer. Generally, for a young person to gain knowledge of computers they must to go to Minsk, the capital of Belarus.

The Slutsk Vocational Technical College serves several regions. Not only do they work with students coming from community schools but they also train youths from the area orphanage and youths who have been in trouble. We were able to give twenty computers to the school and also to teach a course to the teachers called "The Foundation of Christian Ethics."

Two winters ago we visited Raboon school and held a conference. Later, they gave us a tour of the school. They opened the door to one classroom and displayed an immaculate computer class with computers lining the room. Can you imagine our surprise when we were told that all of them were empty of hard drives and had been discarded by the Minsk schools! The computers were there to show the students what computers looked like. This summer we were able to fill the classroom with working computers donated to us from Helping Tulsa. Raboon is a regional central town and the school will serve many schools in the region to teach computer skills.

Unloading computers at the Soligorsk Social Services
The Soligorsk Social Services asked for computers to teach physically disabled youth and disadvantage youth computer skills. We were glad to help them. We also gave a seminar on "How to give hope to our youth" by relating how we worked with troubled youth for many years at Bethesda Boys Ranch located south of Tulsa Ok. They asked us to continue the classes.

Belarussian young men helped us to get the computers ready to deliver. All had to have Russian software installed and monitors had to be adapted to 220 voltage.

We are returning to Belarus November 2. On October 29th another shipment of computers will be on its way to Belarus. "Helping Tulsa" has donated 100 more computers to the Belarus project. The computers are opening doors to help young people and communities. Thank you so much for your help!
