We provided 14 computers to
Tulsa Pythian Manor, which is
HUD Section 8 housing
where Rent Assistance is available. There are two Tulsa Pythian Manor locations:

Tulsa Tulsa Pythian Manor senior residents welcomed their new computers enthusiastically. During the
weekend even those who had never used computers came into the Library and were helped by other
residents to learn to use the computer. The software installed consisted of solitaire and other
games, Bible study, and simple office programs. The following week, computers were set up at
Tulsa Pythian Manor West. Residents who were previously familiar with using a computer enthusiastically
introduced others initially to the computer method of playing solitaire.
Playing solitaire on the computer is an easy way to learn to use the mouse and increase eye/hand coordination. |
All the residents of both Manors continue to be appreciative and excited about their "computer
labs." Eventually, these computers will have printers installed which will allow the residents to
print out letters. The next step will be to add internet connection that will allow the residents
to send and receive e-mail, to do research and genealogy, order library books through the Tulsa
Library System and other libraries throughout the Nation.
These computers have been made available through Helping Tulsa, an organization that refurbishes and donates computers free of charge to non-profit organizations. |
